Information Literacy Month in the United States

President of the United States has declared October as the month of information literacy, given the importance that is gaining for social and economic development of their country using information technology and communication. In early October, called on the American people to recognize the important role that information plays in our daily lives and the need for greater understanding of their impact.
In his proclamation, the President expressed the need to learn the skills necessary to acquire, collate and evaluate information for any situation. This new kind of literacy competence is also required to communicate through technology, including computers and mobile devices that can help decision making in everyday life.
national month of recognition of information literacy emphasizes the need for everyone to be experts in the skills necessary to navigate effectively in the information age. Calls

educators and educational institutions that take into account these new realities. In addition to knowledge basic reading, writing and arithmetic, it is equally important that students have the tools necessary to take advantage of the information. The ability to search, find and decipher the information is applicable to many life decisions.

This month, the United States dedicated to increasing awareness of information literacy for all citizens to understand its vital importance, since the belief that an informed and educated citizenry is essential to the functioning of a modern democratic society.
For this reason, we have implemented several procedures to exchange experiences through social networks from which aims to bring together different professionals who are developing programs to Information Literacy to share some lessons learned and best practices that these programs have left, and as guidance for other professionals.

About use of computers in classrooms

Just a month after we did echo in the Digital Magazine El Recreo a rumor that circulated through the network over the government's plan provide laptops to primary school children for the coming academic year ( A computer for every child in primary: news or rumors?), news finally confirmed during the course of debate on the State of the Nation, on 12 May, with the announcement of the launch of 2.0 school plan that will make classrooms with whiteboards, wireless Internet and that each primary school student has a laptop computer, a study of the English Confederation of Centres Education (CECE)-called Report 2008 educational technology - indicates that the use of computers in classrooms is linked to a poorer performance in PISA tests. The report says that the computer in class is bad, but not out of this tool.

I have always maintained that the mere inclusion of hardware-school pottery does not guarantee the educational innovation (see video illustration). For the expected change to occur, teachers must be competent in the use and exploitation of the potential teaching new technologies offer in learning and communication processes set out in the classroom. We have a long way to go and must necessarily pass through the initial training of teachers of different educational levels in the control of these resources also begin to transform the reality of the classroom.

Do Twins Cause More Implantation Bleeding?

The Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) presented on 21 April, the World Digital Library, a website which documents will be available unique cultural. Internet users worldwide will have unlimited free access to manuscripts, maps, books, films, sound recordings, and photographs of libraries and cultural institutions from at least a dozen countries.

was James H. Billington, head of the Library of Congress U.S. , who proposed the implementation of this project in 2005. In his view, "could have the salutary effect of bringing people together, celebrating the depth and uniqueness of different cultures."

addition to promoting mutual understanding at the international level, the World Digital Library search expand the number and diversity of cultural content on the Internet, providing material for documentation, information and study for educators, students and scholars as well as the general public, and build capacities of partner nations to the project, in order to reduce the gap technology among different countries and within each one of them.

The site has been designed and prepared by a team from the Library of Congress, which received technical assistance from the Library of Alexandria (Egypt). Be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, English, Portuguese and Russian, but will be contained in many other languages. All items are accompanied by descriptions and some of them will be featured in videos by librarians and archivists specialized so that users can place their context.

Digital Libraries in Spain

In recent years, many institutions have chosen to digitize millions of documents and, thus, they were accessible all. figured, well, a first step towards the establishment of the European Digital Library , called Europeana, which came to light last November. This virtual museum driven by Brussels in 2006 contained more than two million books, pictures and videos from around the continent.

For its part, the Cervantes Institute in 1999 launched the Virtual Library Miguel de Cervantes and in ten years more than 650 million visitors have visited your pages. In addition, it will advance the work begun this year to incorporate the Virtual Library Miguel de Cervantes to the so-called Web 2.0, which has required a new computing architecture and construction of new content management services.

ICT and Educational Innovation.

descata seems interesting to me in this input relevant information contained in number 78 of the digital journal TELOS that focuses on the analysis of digital school and the challenges of innovation Education.
This issue contains a complete dossier which involves among others: Álvaro Marchesi, Mariano Segura, Obdulio Martin Bernal, among others.
As
includes the presentation of the magazine , the Dossier crumbles an issue, education in the digital age, especially in its most advanced developments in Web 2.0, which apparently only separate communication because their changes are caused, enabled by Information Technology and Communication (ICT) and its consequences must inevitably be educational, ie, deep processing of communicative models.
specialist Obdulio Coordinated by Martin Bernal (Telos editor for many years and now a professor at the University Carlos III), the paper deals primarily with secondary education with the help of a large group of academic and professional experts who turn on the various perspectives of this problem.

Thus the basic articles of the dossier, it appears Manuel Benito (University of the Basque Country) linking ICT with new educational paradigms, Mariano Segura (CENIC) paints a picture significant international progress in this field Sigalés Carles, Joseph Maria Mominó and Julio Meneses (Open University of Catalonia) focus on the multiple ways in which Internet is being integrated into school education in Spain, and Eduardo Ramos (Director of Operations 2mdc.com) empirically examines in detail the range of new platforms and networks that are already available to all teaching.

In the study presented shows that the controversy over the contribution of digital technologies for educational innovation is still open.

Children's Internet Protection

Under the Safer Internet Day some of the major social networking sites including Facebook, signed last February 10 a European agreement to increase the safety of children using these services. The document has been ratified by Luxembourg with the aim of providing tools for teens face potential risks of the Internet. Web sites must inform the EC on their individual security policies and how to apply the agreement to achieve this agreement, pledging to put in a conspicuous place a button to report inappropriate behavior while also ensuring that the profiles children remain "private" and not be searchable.

The subject is of such interest that attracts some extent parents and educators to take certain measures in providing Internet access to children and students. Recently
Google has a search service that specializes in children's world allowing children to venture into this world safely.

Another service in this regard is offered by Microsoft and the English Association of Pediatrics to ensure child safety on the internet and offer a child protective service (Microsoft Windows Live Family Safety child) for classifying and block unwanted web content, create a list of sites supported or unsupported and monitor the Internet activity of users of child protection.

at: http://www.vivelive.com/proteccioninfantil/ a decalogue is available for the use of internet, video and other tools of interest and resurs to install the program. The portal

: http://www.protecciondemenores.org/ offer advice to parents to raise awareness to responsible use of internet and the procedure involved to make the Internet a safe place for their children. It

know these and other filtering tools unwanted information in order to protect minors from abuse that sometimes they are subjected.

Another theme that connects with the former leads us to propose the boundary between control access of children and their right to privacy. The Education Blog I have agreed to an interesting article on privacy of children and internet services in analyzing the legislation on these issues and shared concerns over the comments made by blog readers.
might be important that we open this forum to find useful resources and share concerns and comments in this sense.

Thanks for helping.
